In the 1st quarter of 2015, the North-Western Shipping Company demonstrated the efficient work of its new fleet, owing to which it became possible to elude sharp decline in traffic volume and achieve positive financial results.

The traffic volume of the North-Western Shipping Company in the period under review amounted to 1.3 million tons - 7% lower than in the same period of the last year. The reduction is mostly accounted for by the decrease in the total tonnage of the North-Western Shipping Company because of the decommissioning of old vessels and the unfavourable economic situation in the markets of Europe and Russia.

Despite the decline in operating results, the company was able to achieve the growth in financial performance. The income of the North-Western Shipping Company from freight in the reporting period, accounting for more than 98% of the total revenues, increased by 28% - to 1.8 billion roubles. The increase took place mainly due to the use of the company's new fleet in the most profitable traffic flow lines. The vessels under the project DCV36 “Amethyst" transported 0.24 million tons cargoes, including 0.1 million tons of exported traffic and 0.13 million tons - transportation between foreign ports. The vessels RSD49 “Neva-Leader" transported 0.18 million tons, of them 0.14 million tons – export shipping. About 75% of revenues were achieved through carriage of grain and timber, ferrous metals and their scrap, chemicals and fertilizers.

The haulage structure of the shipping company in the 1st quarter of 2015 on the whole was preserved at the level of the same period in the last year. The traffic volume of the North-Western Shipping Company was as follows: grain – 0.28 million tons, ferrous metals – 0,24 million tons, chemical and mineral fertilizers – 0.31 million tons, coal – 0.13 million tons, other cargoes – 0.34 million tons.

A considerable proportion of the traffic - 0.85 million tons or 64.3% - accounted for export haulage of the shipping company, showing an increase of 41%. The principal nomenclature of exports was represented by grain cargo - 0.24 million tons (+35%), products and scrap of ferrous metals - 0.26 million tons (the volumes remained at the level of the previous year), coal - 0.13 million tons (a 7x increase), chemical and mineral fertilizers - 0.1 million tons (+ 9%).

The shipping operations between foreign ports amounted to 0.42 million tons or 32%, having been reduced by 43%, mainly due to the reduction in transportation of grain, timber, ferrous metals and fertilizers.

The volume of import freight operations of the shipping company fell by 44%, down to 0.05 million tons, which was caused by reduction of freight transportation of ferrous metals, construction materials and fertilizers to Russia from the countries of Europe. The share of imports in the total traffic volume in the 1st quarter of 2015 amounted to 3.7%.

In the 1st quarter of 2015, the North-Western Shipping Company was not engaged in shipping within Russia.
